  • Dr. Whichard has worked for over 15 years in university (Clinical Assistant Professor at NCSU), public school (school psychologist), and/or private settings.  Professional interests include psychoeducational assessment, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and learning disabilities.  

  • Dr. Whichard earned her BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) (with honors) and her MS and PhD in Psychology (with an emphasis in School Psychology, minor in Special Education) from North Carolina State University (NCSU).   

There is balance between learning and expression.  The goal of Whichard Psychological Services, PLLC, is to restore that balance when it has been lost. 

  • Whichard Psychological Services strives to provide a thorough description/evaluation of a child's strengths and needs as they pertain to his/her unique learning profile. 

  • Parents, teachers, and schools use this information to better understand how psychological and learning principles can be applied to enhance children's overall functioning and to compensate for areas of relative weakness.  

  • Populations served: child, adolescent, and college-age 

  • Dr. Whichard completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Clinical Center for the Study of Child Development and Learning (CDL) at UNC-CH, now known as the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities where she obtained a variety of clinical experiences (e.g., neuropsychological evaluations, psychoeducational evaluations at a center focused on the assessment/treatment for abused children, school psychological services for elementary and middle schools, supervision of psychology practicum students) and was exposed to a number of clinical populations (e.g., developmentally delayed, autistic, behaviorally disordered, abused/traumatized, learning disabled). 

Dr. Whichard lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, developmental psychologist and researcher; and two children.


Whichard Psychological Services is an“out-of-network” provider and does not file directly with insurance companies for reimbursement; however, you will be provided with a Statement of Services/Invoice at the completion of services for you to file for direct reimbursement.

Assessment/Diagnostic Evaluation


  • Diagnostic evaluations assist with determining your/child's needs as they relate to specific referral questions and to appropriate interventions/services through school-based or community-based supports.  
  • Recommendations stem directly from your/child's profile, regardless of any diagnoses. 



  • Where diagnoses are appropriate, you will be provided with information about how to access resources within educational (e.g., Individualized Education Plan, 504 Plan, University/College) and community (e.g., counseling/therapy, coaching) settings. 
  • When appropriate, Dr. Whichard assists families with developing intervention plans to address specific areas of need.
